July Musings From the Mat
On the Mat...
This month I am excited to announce that I will begin teaching a vinyasa yoga class on Thursday evenings from
6:30 to 7:30. Here in the West, we translate vinyasa to mean flow, but in Sanskrit, vinyasa means, "to place in a special
way." Vinyasa classes have a livelier pace and a stronger intensity than you ordinarily find in a "hatha" class,
but if you love to move and feel physically charged and challenged, than this kind of yoga is for you (it's my personal
favorite!). I would suggest some prior knowledge of yoga poses--try out one of the hatha classes on Sunday or Tuesday--then
come join the flow!

Have you heard about all the great benefits you can derive from eating flax?
Not only is it heart healthy, but there is also good evidence that eating flax helps to reduce your risk of developing breast
cancer! Can't beat that!
Here's a recipe I have been
enjoying-I love adding shredded carrot and raisins to bump up the flavor factor! Eat one a day, they are small, dense and
yummy!
Super Potent Flax Seed Muffins
The following is the recipe used in clinical research on flax seed and breast
cancer. The recipe yields a week's supply of muffins (7 muffins). Each muffin
provides 25 grams of flax seed.
5/8 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup ground
flaxseed
3/8 cup brown sugar
1/2 T baking powder
1/2 t nutmeg
1/2 t cinnamon
1 1/2 cups skim
milk (I use rice milk)
Bake muffins at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done.
